The
Ospreyä Shooting-Head is the most exciting event in Midwestern
fly fishing since we hooked our first steelhead on a fly.
The Osprey condensed sinking shooting-head allows the exercise of fly
fishing techniques instead of "slinky drifter" fishing (Chuck
and duck) for fishing salmon and steelhead. Osprey Shooting-heads are cast with
traditional fly-casting techniques or with a modified roll-cast (in tight
cover). The Osprey pulls the flies down
into deep pools and down quickly in fast water at the spawning redds, and
provide the "feel" of drifting flies on a sinking flyline
instead of the "tapping" of a Slinky Drifter on the river
bottom. This design is not limited to fly fishing only, it can also
be fished with spinning gear. Fishing with a condensed sinking shooting-head
(Osprey) keeps the
angler tight to the flies, allows fishing for suspended fish in pools, and
protects the line from most snags. If you're tired of fishing with
split shot, the Osprey is your answer. Each OSPREY is Handcrafted by
fly fishermen in MICHIGAN, U.S.A.
|
| The overall length of an Osprey shooting-head is 2 1/2-feet long with a
monofilament loop at the fly-end and a barrel swivel at the other end (to
be tied to the fly line, shooting fly line or a monofilament line such as
amnesia). We recommend the use of a three to four foot length of
heavy mono or amnesia between the fly line and the Osprey, when fishing
deep pools or line shy fish in clear water. We have found the Os210
model Osprey to be best suited when fishing deep pools or high, fast
water. The Os110 works best for slow and shallow water, while the
Os160 works well for the in-between conditions. |

For more than just for Fly
fishing...
The Osprey works well for the angler using spinning gear. We
recommend the use of a heavy 12 or 14-pound test monofilament up to the
swivel of the Osprey to prevent loss, and whatever tippet or leader
material from the end of the Osprey. (SEE GRAPHIC) If you're
tired of wasting money on split shot (not to mention lead pollution) the
Osprey is for you. Remember, if your using traditional fly fishing
or spinning gear, and are tired of the constant hanging up on bottom
debris, try drifted fishing with the Osprey (bait or flies).
We guarantee you'll tie less knots and lose fewer
flies!
