2/9/00 - Got new prop. Got a master airscrew because it fits
in the nose cone much better.
3/8/00 - After about 15 minutes of spinning the engine, I finally
got it started.
5/9/00 - Purchases a ST 40 so as the K&B does not run well.
5/14/00 - Finished making a new engine mount for the plane.
Time to fuel proof and break in a new engine.
6/6/00 - Made it out to the field today. Bruce helped my fly
twice. Landed, not by design necessarily on the second flight.
Prop saw some dirt, completely my fault. Man that Super Tigre engine
runs GREAT. No problems here. Need to rebuild the K&B and
see if I can get it to run better.
7/5/00 - Flew with John Hice a few times. The engine seemed
a bit underpowered. I did not land but did take off. I had about
4 flights this day.
7/19/00 - Flew twice today. First time with Mike, found out
that the glow plug was junk and needed replacing. It ran 100% better
this time, and fast too. That was the problem from last time.
Flew again with John Hice. After he took it up and flew around, I
practiced landings. I landed once, took off again, landed a second
time, this time a PERFECT landing no bumps at all. And the
third time I landed slightly bumpy again. Time for super acrobatics
:-(.
7/26/00 7/27/00 - Went to field, too windy did not fly.
8/6/00 - Ran into Gary, Scott and Scott at Gates.
8/10/00 - Went to club to fly. It was quit windy so I did
not attempt to land the first flight. Bob S. was the instructor.
Second flight, I did two landings. First one was good. Second
one had a bit of gust which I hit the prop to the ground and it
stopped.
8/16/00 - Flew only once today. With Bruce and did not use a
trainer cord this time. I flew around a bit, tried to do the figure 8
and I could not keep it same height because of the wind gusts. I
landed great, took off again and the engine quite during take off. I
did a dead stick landing well. I need to do W to E landings now for
practice.
8/22/00 - Worked with Trevor today. We did about 5+ flights
and did many touch and go's. Broke the wooden prop but still did
well. We started to work on opposite side landings but ran out of
time. There was lots of crosswind and I had to use my rudder a lot to
land correctly with out being blown across the field.
8/23/00 - Worked with John H. today. Did 3+ flights, and did
many landings. The plane stalled twice on aborted landings and once
nearly popped the wing off.
8/29/00 - THE EAGLE HAS LANDED!!! Today I got my
"Wings". This means that the club has certified that I am a pilot.
I ended up taking off, landing, taking off the other way, landing. Do
a figure 8 without loosing altitude, and then Bob S. took my plane way up in
the air, cut the power, and then had me land it. Just for extra fun, I
had a lot of dead sticks during this as I believe my glow plug is on it's
way out.
9/6/00 - Today the wind was quite gusty going do the runway the
wrong way (E-W). Did a flight, played in the wind, did a touch and go,
then landed. Next flight, an hour later was less windy. Third
and fourth flight were better. Had problems seeing because needed to
land from the sun. First day without instructor.
4/29/01 - Flew at Chesaning field in the strong head wind.
No problems with the wind. The simulator helped a lot. 2 Flights
5/3/01 - Flew at normal field in very strong diagonal wind.
Even with the very strong wind (guess around 10-20 mph,) it still worked
ok. Time to move up to another plane. 2 Flights. Learned that
the buzzing sound my plane makes are from the elevator that is loose, along
with the rudder too. Time to take apart, and re glue.
7/14/01 - Time to glue, tired of it just sitting around in
basement when it could be sitting around in garage. Decided to use CA
hinges with my hinge cutter.
